Alumn, Owner and Chairman of the Houston Astros Jim Crane, Inducted to St. Louis Sports Hall of Fame
Owner and Chairman of the Houston Astros, Jim Crane, will be in St. Louis on Thursday, May 31 to receive the August A. Busch, Jr. Award from the St. Louis Sports Hall of Fame. Crane, who grew up in North County, graduated from Lutheran High School North in 1972. Through his contributions, Lutheran North was able to grow its campus and improve the athletic facilities which bear his name.
Along with Crane’s recognition, Lutheran North will be inducted to the St. Louis Sports Hall of Fame - the second high school in St. Louis to receive this honor.
Former Lutheran North athletes Steve Atwater of the Denver Broncos, Bobby Joe Edmonds of the Seattle Seahawks, Olympic high jumper Connie Teaberry-Lindsey, and former Lutheran North Coach Mike Russell all will be inducted in the ceremony at Andre’s South Banquet Center (4254 Telegraph Road). The reception begins at 5 p.m. with programming at 7 p.m. Other Lutheran North graduates, including St. Louis Police Chief John Hayden, Tony Irons, Mark Belew, Dick Beumer, Jana Haywood, Mark Petersen and Lorenzo Scott will be honored. Coaches James Prahlow and Ed Reitz will receive Metro Legends Awards and Bill LaMothe will be named the President’s Choice winner by the St. Louis Sports Hall of Fame.
